This is Sabio's first Oliver Jeffers book. Its story is clear and directly to the point. Yet, enjoyable. The main characters legs are drawed as thin lines, contrasting with other illustrations in the book which are very lovely. Mom find this book really cute and amazingly fit to be read before sleep.


Seorang anak lelaki dan orang Mars bertemu ketika mereka terjebak di bulan. Bersama-sama mereka mencari jalan kembali ke rumah masing-masing. Untuk membawa barang-barang yang dibutuhkan, anak itu harus turun ke bumi sendirian. Saat ia akhirnya tiba di rumah, apakah ia akan ingat untuk membantu orang Mars kembali ke planetnya?

Ini adalah buku pertama Oliver Jeffers punya Sabio. Ceritanya jelas dan langsung pada intinya. Namun, menyenangkan. Kaki para karakter utama digambar sebagai garis tipis, kontras dengan ilustrasi lainnya yang sangat indah. Mama merasa buku ini sangat lucu dan sangat cocok untuk dibaca sebelum tidur.

This book had been in book shelves for years until one day Mom found it. At that time, Mom had became so restless and confused by S' emotions for months. The sweetest little boy who's so caring and full of forgiveness had changed to a sensitive boy with emotion management issue.

He didn't want to write at school and expressed his frustration of being verbally bullied by screaming and yelling at school.
When he was younger, he was often being a victim of physical bullied. It was "often" but he kept approaching the kids with his full of forgiveness spirit. He rejected Mom stupid advise, said that violence was unacceptable. But, he cried a lot until he decided to pick which kid should be forgiven and which one should be not.

So, when the issue reappeared and he couldn't take it easy anymore being called "Baby", "(literally) Baby Face", "White Face", "Foreigner". And Mom didn't embrace his feelings but kept saying that he needs to be cool. He started to rebel (Mom can't understand him) and Mom started talking a lot (He doesn't want to listen to Mom). And the bonding (made by breastfeeding for 3 years, bed sharing for 6 years, laughing, giggling, hugging, almost together for all time, etc) were shaken.

Fortunately, this book teaches Mom how to listen to him with less advises and less questions. It tells Mom how to give him informations as well as opportunities to decide what is better for him. And how to think before answering a question. It can also be used to talk to an adult.

Be patient, maybe it's not an instant permanent result. Mom and S are still in process, too. We are so attached to each other that it become confusing why we don't understand each other as much as before.

We learn how to spend time apart sometime. So S won't feel guilty if he likes playing soccer more than accompanying his mom. And we will love and listen to each other more.

These Tokyu Corporation Q&A booklets illustrations are so nice that Sabio and Mom wish Indonesia's railway corporation will make these kind of booklets too.

Ilustrasi buklet Q&A Tokyu Corporation ini sangat bagus sehingga Sabio dan Mom berharap perusahaan kereta api Indonesia akan membuat buklet semacam ini juga.

Do not judge a book by its cover. Pertama kali lihat, Mama pikir ini buku pasti ceritanya bayi banget. Setelah membaca isinya, luar biasa, ceritanya sungguh realistis. Sederhana tapi bermakna dalam.

Tentang seekor tikus kecil yang melawan ketakutannya sendiri, ingin menjumpai sang raja popular, yaitu Singa. Demi impiannya memiliki banyak teman serta merasakan hidup lebih indah. Hendak apakah ia? Ia hanya ingin belajar mengaum langsung dari ahlinya.

Selama pemotretan untuk review, Sabio bolak-balik berkata, "Sebentar, Mama, aku mau baca lagi". Padahal buku ini sudah berkali-kali dibaca, tawa geli Sabio selalu terdengar disela-sela suara kertas yang dibalik. Pemilihan kata-katanya memang dramatis, puitis, plus humoris.

Belum lagi ilustrasinya, benar-benar menghidupkan sebuah cerita. Coba tutup semua hurufnya, dan "baca" tanpa tulisan. Cukup lihat gambarnya, cerita yang inspiratif ini dapat dimengerti dengan mudah.

Don't judge a book by its cover.  At first, Mom thought this book's story must be really babyish. After reading the contents, it's pretty amazing, the story is really realistic. Simple but meaningful.

About a little mouse who fights against his own fear, wanting to meet the popular king, The Lion. For the sake of his dream to have many friends and to feel a beautiful life. What does he want from The Lion? He just wants to learn how to roar directly from the expert.

During the photo shoot for the review, Sabio oftenly says, "Wait a minute, Mom, I want to read it again".  Even though this book has been read many times, Sabio's giggles are always heard between the sound of page turning. Rachel Bright's choice of words is indeed dramatic, poetic, plus humorous.

Not to mention the illustrations, which really bring its story to life. Try closing all the letters, and "read" the book without its writing. Just by looking at the pictures, this inspiring story can be easily understood.

Jedediah Johnson was the narrator's granddaddy's brother. And her favourite relative. He was a diligent and friendly barber. He had a dream to open a fancy and clean barbershop one day. But his dream didn't made him a greedy or a selfish man. Uncle Jed still managed to help other people, to work diligently, and to make his dream come true despite of the obstacles.

Sabio loves the story, especially when Uncle Jed's finally opened his barbershop.

Dia bermimpi untuk membuka tempat pangkas yang mewah dan bersih suatu hari. Tapi mimpinya tidak membuatnya menjadi orang yang tamak ataupun egois. Paman Jed masih membantu orang lain, bekerja dengan rajin, dan mewujudkan mimpinya meskipun menghadapi hambatan.

Sabio suka ceritanya, terutama ketika Paman Jed akhirnya membuka barbershop-nya.

Who doesn't know Wanda and The Alien? They are characters of a colourful children's TV show titled "Wanda and The Alien". One day, Wanda and The Alien meet a little creature in the forest. He looks for his mummy. Because it's getting dark, they decide to take him home first. At Wanda's home, they do anything to make the little creature feel at home. But, sometimes he has a way of his own. And, he really needs his mummy.

This book has already been in mom's wishlist before because Sabio likes to watch the TV show. Mom almost gave it up, putting it back to the table at BBW. There was a lot of book in our trolly. But, he said that he really wanted it.

Sabio is a bit older now. He seldom watch "Wanda and The Alien". However, he still looks excited whenever we read this book.

Siapa yang nggak tahu Wanda dan Alien? Mereka adalah karakter dari acara TV anak dengan judul yang sama.

Suatu hari, Wanda dan Alien bertemu dengan makhluk kecil yang sendirian di hutan. Makhluk itu sedang mencari mamanya. Karena hari sudah gelap, mereka memutuskan untuk membawanya pulang.
Di rumah Wanda, mereka melakukan apapun supaya makhluk itu betah. Tetapi, kadang-kadang si makhluk kecil punya caranya sendiri. Dan dia sangat membutuhkan mamanya.

Buku ini sudah ada di wishlist Mama karena Sabio suka nonton acara TVnya. Mama hampir nggak jadi beli sewaktu di BBW. Sudah ada banyak buku di dalam troli. Tapi Sabio bilang kalau dia benar-benar mau buku itu.

Dia sudah sedikit lebih besar sekarang dan jarang nonton "Wanda dan Alien" lagi. Namun, Sabio masih terlihat bersemangat setiap membaca buku ini.
